The Drinks Can

A can of coca cola

Introduced in 1962, the drinks can is an iconic and universally used item. Its design is often overlooked.

Erganomic Shape

Its cylindrical shape perfectly fits into any adultߴs hand, offering a comfortable grip.

Sturdiness & Stackability

It features a circular lip at the base of the can, acting as a sort-of foot for it to stand upon. This provides the can with more stability once placed down on a flat surface, ensuring the contents arenߴt spilt out. This lip also provides the ability to stack multiple cans on top of each other, as it tucks perfectly within the lip at the top of the can. By being able to stack them, it allows for more efficient packing or storing of the cans.

Consumer Experience

The pop tab is a crucial element of the design, as it provides the user with a simple and efficient method to open the can. This makes it a perfect product for on-the-go, as there is no need for any extra tool to open it. Yet, it also will not spill in a bag, as there is no seam until it has been ‘popped’.

The drinking experience is enhanced by the lip at the top of the can, which is double sealed to prevent any sharp edges and to provide a smooth flow of the drink.

Lightweight Material

Soft aluminium walls make the can lightweight and easy to carry around, even if full of liquid. Another benefit of this material is that it can easily be crushed down and minimised once it is finished with, so that it takes up less room in the recycling bin. (Itߴs also recyclable!)

Itߴs even highly conductive, allowing it to efficiently cool down the contents once placed in the fridge.
