Mokka Pot

The Mokka Pot is a stove-top coffee maker, designed to pass steam through ground coffee to create a strong brew. It’s clever design ensures a great brewing experience from preparing the pot, to pouring the coffee, through to cleaning it.
Starting with it’s distinct tapered shape – the pot is widest at it’s base, giving it a low centre of gravity. This ensures that it will be sturdy when placed on a surface and less likely to topple over. Considering the object often contains boiling liquid this is especially important. It also makes it more accessible to those who only have use of one of their hands – it allows them to place the pot down whilst they spoon in the grounds. Another benefit of this wide base is the increased surface contact with the stovetop which helps to transfer the heat efficiently.

It’s octagonal body provides an easy to grip surface (only when it’s not hot!) which is particularly useful when preparing the pot for brewing.
The coffee maker features a tapered spout with a slight flare which makes the coffee flow out of the pot with precision, making minimal mess. The pouring experience is further enhanced by the ergonomic handle. Shaped with subtle curves, it provides the user with perfect spots to place their hand and pour their drink comfortably. This handle is made from thermaplastic which does not conduct the heat and allows for a firm grip, this makes it safer to handle the pot whilst it is at its hottest but it also will not melt from being near to such heat.

The use of stainless steel for the body of the mokka pot makes it very durable; it conducts the heat excellently; and it is easy to clean.
Drinks Can
Introduced in 1962, the drinks can is an iconic and universally used item. it’s design often overlooked.

It’s cylindrical shape perfectly fits into any adult’s hand, offering a comfortable grip.
It features a circular lip at the base of the can, acting as a sort-of foot for it to stand upon. This provides the can with more stability once placed down on a flat surface ensuring the contents isn’t spilt out. This lip also provides the ability to stack multiple cans on top of each other as it tucks perfectly within the lip at the top of the can. By being able to stack them, it allows for more efficient packing or storing of the cans.
The pop tab is a crucial element of the design as it provides the user with a simple and efficient method to open the can. This makes it a perfect product for on to go as there is no need for any extra tool to open it. Yet it also will not spill in a bag as there is no seam until it has been ‘popped’.

The drinking experience is enhanced by the lip at the top of the can which is double sealed to prevent any sharp edges and provide a smooth flow of the drink.
Soft aluminium walls make the can lightweight and easy to carry around, even if full of liquid. Another benefit to this material is it can easily be crushed down and minimised once it is finished with so that it takes up less room in the recycling bin. (it’s also recyclable!)
It’s even highly conductive, allowing it to efficiently cool down the contents once placed in the fridge.
Calpol Syringe
So simple, yet so effective is the design of the calpol syringe. Provided with every bottle of calpol, is a plastic syringe, used to deliver the medicine to a child with ease.

The successful design of this item is so vital to the product, as delivering this sticky medicine to a baby or toddler is no easy feat.
It’s narrow and rounded barrel easily fits into the childs mouth, without causing them any discomfort as there are no sharp edges or corners. It also fits perfectly into the opening of the bottle ensuring a mess free job of filling it up.
The inner cylinder fits snugly within the barrel, creating a seal which prevents any of the medicine from spilling out if it is placed down. This inner piece features a flange at the end which allows for a stable grip. This is essential to maintain control whilst dosing and even allows you to deliver the dosage one handed (leaving the other hand free to keep the toddler from crawling away!). The flange also creates an angle on the otherwise cylindrical shape, which prevents it from rolling off a surface or away from the user.

The choice of a plastic material for the syringe means that it could be washed and reused again and again. The reusability makes it environmentally friendly and it can even be recycled!

its transparent colour allows the user to easily see inside to the bold coloured substance making the measuring of the dosage a breeze.
